BacklotHub vs StudioBinder
Different layers of the production stack.
StudioBinder is excellent at what it does — call sheets, shot lists, scripts, storyboards, schedules. BacklotHub solves an adjacent problem: the production company itself. Crew database, drive indexing and transfer, financial tracking with Expensify, and a public marketplace for resources.
A working production company often runs both. StudioBinder for the show. BacklotHub for the company that makes the shows.
Side by side
An honest note
"StudioBinder is genuinely the right tool for managing a show in pre-production — call sheets, shot lists, scripts. BacklotHub is the right tool for managing the production company. They are not substitutes; they are complementary. If you only need one, start with StudioBinder. If you are running a multi-show studio that needs crew, drives, and finances in one place — BacklotHub is the system you eventually grow into."
Frequently asked
- Is BacklotHub a StudioBinder alternative?
- Not exactly — they solve different problems. StudioBinder manages shows (pre-production: call sheets, shot lists, storyboards). BacklotHub manages the production company (crew database, drive logistics, finances, marketplace). Most studios will use both.
- When will BacklotHub be available outside 10 Lives Studios?
- BacklotHub is currently pre-alpha and shipping internally to 10 Lives Studios. The public marketplace MVP is live (Sprint 1). Talk to us if you want to be in the next cohort.
- Can I import my StudioBinder data into BacklotHub?
- BacklotHub supports XLSX bulk import for crew, employees, and assets. If StudioBinder data covers those entities, the import path will work.
